How to Do Duplicate Stitch for Knit Toys: Easy Colorwork Tutorial

Duplicate stitch is one of my favorite techniques for adding small details and colorwork to knit toys. It allows you to “draw” on top of knitted fabric by following the shape of each stitch with a yarn needle.
This technique is perfect for adding tiny faces, toast crusts, fair isle details, lettering, small patterns, or colorful accents without needing to knit stranded colorwork. It is beginner-friendly, relaxing to work on, and easy to fix or adjust if needed.
In this tutorial, I will show you how to duplicate stitches row by row while keeping the stitches neat and untwisted. Once you understand the stitch direction, you can use this method to create endless colorwork designs on your knit toys and knitting projects.
