Free Tiny Toast Knitting Pattern

Making tiny knitted food is one of my favorite ways to practice small techniques while creating something cute and relaxing. This free tiny toast knitting pattern is a quick and beginner-friendly project that also works perfectly for learning duplicate stitch embroidery.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to knit a tiny slice of toast and use duplicate stitch to add simple details. It’s a fun way to practice colorwork knitting without needing to knit complicated stranded patterns.

You can use this mini toast as a soft toy, keychain charm, bag accessory, desk decor piece, or a tiny stress-relief plushie to squish in your hand, or even as part of a pretend play food collection. The pattern is small, fast to finish, and great for using leftover yarn scraps.

Whether you’re new to knitting toys or just looking for a cozy mini project, I hope this tiny toast brings a little fun to your knitting time.

Toast Crust - Duplicate stitch

Step 1: Start 2 stitches to the right of the first stitch of the cast-on row. Using brown yarn, work duplicate stitch over 4 stitches. Then work 4 stitches above from left to right. Continue repeating upward along the edge until you reach the top of the toast.

Step 2: Along the top edge of the toast, work 5 rows of duplicate stitch across the centre section.

Step 3: Repeat Step 1 on the other side of the toast. Weave in the ends.

Butter

Using yellow yarn, long-tail cast on 8 sts. Work flat in stockinette stitch for 7 rows, beginning with a purl row (WS). Then bind off knitwise. Cut with a yarn tail for sewing later.

Butter Your Toast

Place the butter piece diagonally in the centre of the toast. Sew it onto the toast along the edges.

Close the Toast

Lightly stuff the toast, then use brown yarn to close the opening with mattress stitch. After closing, work 2 rows of duplicate stitch above and below the seam to continue the crust detail. Finish off.
